Cigarette smoking and the risk of heart attack


A mini study was carried in CMC hospital, among 20 heart attack (Myocardial Infarction) patients, on 7-10-10 and 14-10-10 respectively, to identify how Cigarette smoking influences the risk of heart attack. 


It was found that among 20 patients with a recent history of  a heart attack, 19 had a history of cigarette smoking.

Among the smokers who had a history of a heart attack, 2/3rd were consuming atleast 5 packs per year,.

The Study was conclusive of chronic cigarette smoking has a direct effect on causing heart attacks in previously healthy people.

And the study was suggestive of, in the absence of chronic cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes malletus, obesity, sedentary activity play a major role in causing heart attacks.

It has been observed that most of disease risk falls after cessation of smoking.


If you are a chronic smoker and looking forward to, cease cigarette smoking !!!........

Consult a doctor as there may be withdrawal symptoms which effect  psychologically and physically.
nausea
headaches
anxiety
irritability
constipation
are some commonly seen withdrawn symptoms,  which tend to peak after 12-24 hours, and then gradually ease over 2-4 weeks. At present various medicines are available to help quit from the addiction but they must be taken under strict  guidance of a qualified doctor.
